Rondreaus Cureton has been arrested and charged in connection with a fatal shooting and multi-vehicle crash in Charlotte, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD). The incident, which left one person dead and hospitalized multiple others, unfolded early on the morning of August 2.
Shooting and Crash at East Fifth and North McDowell Streets
According to CMPD, officers responded to an emergency call regarding an alleged robbery of an individual at approximately 1:00 a.m. on August 2. McDowell Street, responding officers discovered a traffic crash involving two vehicles. Investigators determined that four victims were transported from the scene to local hospitals. One victim sustained life-threatening injuries, while three others suffered injuries that did not require immediate medical attention. The victim with severe injuries was later found to have suffered an apparent gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the hospital. Police identified the deceased as 37-year-old Erick Holman.
Suspect Arrest and Charges Filed by CMPD
Following a brief pursuit, officers apprehended Rondreaus Cureton at approximately 1:38 a.m., just over half an hour after the initial emergency call. CMPD transported the suspect to the Law Enforcement Center for questioning. He was subsequently placed under custody by the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office. Cureton faces multiple felony charges, including murder, possession of a firearm by a felon, felony hit-and-run resulting in serious injury, and motor vehicle theft, according to law enforcement records.
