An external review has been ordered following a Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) operation in County Tyrone where 51 cattle were shot on a farm near Fivemiletown.
DAERA Operation and Cattle Shooting Details
According to the Irish Farmers Journal, the operation lasted approximately 12 hours. The scale of the culling operation immediately alarmed local farming representatives, who questioned the necessity and proportionality of destroying more than 50 animals in a single intervention.
According to Agriland, farming unions and local representatives expressed deep concern over the operation, demanding immediate transparency from the department regarding the decision-making process that led to the mass shooting.
External Review Ordered by Agriculture Minister
In response to mounting pressure from the farming community and political figures, Northern Ireland agriculture minister ordered an independent external review into the Fivemiletown incident.
