Grant Sherfield has signed with BC Vienna for the 2026/27 international basketball season, bringing his experience from several European leagues to the Austrian club, according to official club announcements. The 26-year-old American guard joins the squad following a stint with Trefl Sopot in Poland, with BC Vienna slotting him into their upcoming ABA League campaign alongside potential appearances in the Basketball Champions League or FIBA Europe Cup depending on tournament qualification.
Career Trajectory Across Europe and the BBL
Sherfield began his 2025/26 season with the Basketball Löwen Braunschweig in Germany’s BBL, where he averaged 14.0 points and 3.6 assists across 24 league games, alongside 16.0 points and 4.0 assists in the FIBA Europe Cup, according to team records. He subsequently moved to Poland last March to play 15 matches across all competitions for Trefl Sopot. His European professional journey started in 2023 with French side Metropolitans 92 before subsequent stints with Hapoel Be’er Sheva in Israel, RASTA Vechta in Germany, and Yalovaspor in Turkey, according to club data.
BC Vienna head coach Dragan Bajić noted that Sherfield’s ability to handle both guard positions, combined with his shooting range and pace, addresses specific offensive needs for the roster. Bajić stated that the player’s prior experience in competitive European leagues provides an immediate boost to the team’s backcourt depth.
Collegiate Background and Transition to the Pros
Before launching his professional career abroad, Sherfield played college basketball at Wichita State University, the University of Nevada, and the University of Oklahoma. He earned All-Mountain West First Team honors during his standout tenure at Nevada and finished his collegiate career as the leading scorer for Oklahoma. After going undrafted in the 2023 NBA Draft, he participated in the NBA Summer League with the Phoenix Suns.
Looking ahead to his debut in Vienna, Sherfield emphasized team success as his primary metric for the upcoming year. He aims to help secure victories while contributing positively on both ends of the court as the club prepares for its schedule.
