Aryna Sabalenka Recharges in Greece After US Open Final Heartbreak

Tennis star Aryna Sabalenka is recharging in Greece following her defeat to Elena Rybakina in the US Open final, sharing vacation updates with her 5.7 million Instagram followers as she resets for the remainder of the season. According to reports from German outlet Bild, the world number two traveled to the Mediterranean to decompress after falling 4-6, 7-5, 2-6 to Kazakhstan’s Rybakina in New York on September 13, marking her second Grand Slam final loss of the year to the same opponent following the Australian Open.

Vacation in Greece and Recovery Strategy

Sabalenka documented her getaway on social media under the slogan “Rest and restart in Greece,” posting photos of herself relaxing in a bikini, swimming in the Mediterranean, and playing with her Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Ash, according to Bild. Alongside the leisure activities, the Belarusian player brought Jason Stacey’s book “The Pressure Code” as reading material. The book focuses on how elite athletes manage high-level pressure and reach the top of their sport.

The Greek holiday serves as a mental reset following a tense conclusion to her New York campaign. Television cameras captured Sabalenka visibly frustrated, where she rolled her eyes and told a cameraman to “fuck off”. The reaction quickly circulated across social media platforms like X, drawing sharp criticism from fans regarding her conduct, as documented by Bild.

Addressing On-Court Emotions and Authenticity

Sabalenka’s fiery temperament on tour has drawn both heavy scrutiny and staunch defense from peers. Spanish player Paula Badosa, Sabalenka’s closest friend on the professional tour, defended her approach. “At the end of the day, she’s a very authentic person,” Badosa said, noting that her unfiltered nature makes her unique.

Sabalenka herself has openly addressed her inability to mask frustration on the court, explaining that suppressing negative emotions damages her competitive stamina. “I will never be completely in control,” Sabalenka said. “When I hold that negativity inside, it keeps growing… It destroys you from the inside to the point that you don’t have any energy and power to compete and to fight.” She even suggested tournaments establish designated areas for players to vent frustration between sets safely.

Upcoming Tour Return

With her Mediterranean holiday drawing to a close, Sabalenka is redirecting her focus toward the final stretch of the tennis calendar. Having previously fallen short against Rybakina in both Melbourne and New York, the world number two aims to channel the lessons from her reading material and her Greek downtime into upcoming tournaments.
