The International Italo-Latin American Organization (IILA) has officially opened its call for papers for the eighth volume of Quaderni Culturali IILA, according to an announcement from the organization’s Cultural Secretariat. Scheduled for publication, the upcoming monograph is titled “Connected Constellations: Transnational Artistic Trajectories Between Italy and Latin America During the Cold War.”
According to the IILA, the scientific journal focuses on cultural relations between Italy and Latin America and is co-edited by Paulina Caro Troncoso of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso and Roberta Garieri of the Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne. Researchers have until August 21, 2026, to submit their contributions for the peer-reviewed volume, which examines artistic connections developed between the 1950s and the 1980s.

The new volume invites scholars to reevaluate artistic exchanges during the Cold War by moving beyond traditional national frameworks and center-periphery models, as stated in the official call. Instead, the publication emphasizes a connected reading of artistic developments, highlighting mutual contaminations and collaborative networks that spanned the mid-to-late twentieth century.
During the decades between the 1950s and 1980s, Italy served as a primary hub for numerous Latin American artists, critics, and theorists seeking spaces for production, training, and experimentation. Conversely, Italian intellectuals and artists frequently looked to Latin American nations for aesthetic dialogue. Political exile, migration, research travel, and academic partnerships built a dense network of relationships that reshaped visual languages and cultural production, according to the IILA’s editorial framework.
Submission Guidelines and Multilingual Requirements
Eligible submissions must fall within the required word length. In alignment with the journal’s international scope, papers may be submitted in Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, French, or English. The editorial board welcomes studies addressing specific case studies involving artists, critics, independent spaces, cultural institutions, exhibitions, and the broader memories of travel and migration.
Founded in 2018, Quaderni Culturali IILA publishes annual thematic monographs dedicated to Latin American art and culture with an emphasis on interdisciplinary approaches. The journal holds scientific recognition from the Italian National Agency for the Evaluation of University and Research (ANVUR) and is indexed in the Diamond Discovery Hub, an international directory supporting Diamond Open Access academic publications that eliminate economic barriers for both authors and readers.
