Défi 4HÉROS in Brossard: A Fitness Challenge for Pediatric Cancer Research

The inaugural Défi 4HÉROS fitness fundraiser is scheduled for August 29 at the Complexe sportif CN in Brossard, according to event founder Jonathan Hamel. The event combines team functional training with pediatric cancer research fundraising, directing 100 percent of its proceeds to the Fondation Charles-Bruneau to support childhood cancer research and care.

Event Structure and Team Competition Format

According to event organizers, the competition features teams of four tackling a functional course consisting of 16 distinct stations. Eight teams compete simultaneously on a circuit distinguished by color-coded stations designed to manage the flow and visual layout of the challenge.

The course incorporates 400-meter running segments combined with heavy cardio and strength apparatuses. Participants rotate through SkiErg, BikeErg, stationary rowing, AirDyne bikes, and weighted sled pushes and pulls. The setup tests both raw strength and cardiovascular endurance while requiring coordinated transitions among team members.

Organizers have set up a competitive arena featuring a live DJ, spectator animation, and a large screen displaying real-time team completion timers. The venue, Complexe sportif CN, serves as the regular training facility for the Montreal Canadiens.

Registration Status and Fundraising History

With weeks remaining before the August 29 launch, 32 teams have secured registration out of a maximum capacity of 48 teams. Event planners are structuring the schedule into hourly waves of eight starting teams.

Founder Jonathan Hamel brings extensive fundraising experience to the initiative, having coordinated over 120 charity events and raised upwards of plus d’un million de dollars for pediatric cancer causes over the past 13 years. Notable prior efforts include a 2020 lockdown campaign that generated 90 000 $ for the Fondation Charles-Bruneau despite widespread facility closures.

Hamel, who operates the Hamfit training facilities in Brossard with an upcoming location planned for Sainte-Julie, designed the event to accommodate varying fitness levels. The organization confirmed that registration remains open for remaining slots through the official Défi 4HÉROS online portal.
