Severe weather alerts remain active across the Region of Murcia, bringing a combination of heavy rainfall, potential thunderstorms, and high temperatures reaching up to 38 degrees Celsius, according to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet). While extreme heat warnings have dipped slightly below the 40-degree threshold, local authorities continue tracking persistent meteorological hazards affecting nearly the entire regional territory.

Rainfall and Storm Warnings Across the Region

The most significant rainfall warning targets the Noroeste area, where Aemet forecasts accumulations of up to 15 liters per square meter within a single hour. Peak risk hours span from 14:00 to 22:00. Additional territories facing low-threat thunderstorm warnings include the Altiplano, Vega del Segura, Valle del Guadalentín, Lorca, and Águilas. These weather phenomena may bring localized hail and very strong wind gusts.

Temperature Breakdown by Municipality

High temperatures persist alongside the storms, with maximums hitting 38 degrees in several zones, particularly around the Vega del Segura. Heat alerts cover the Noroeste, Vega del Segura, Valle del Guadalentín, Lorca, and Águilas from 13:00 to 21:00.

  • Murcia City: Maximum temperatures drop slightly to 38 degrees Celsius, while minimums rise to 24 degrees Celsius.
  • Yecla: The Altiplano municipality faces thunderstorm alerts without a heat warning, registering highs of 37 degrees and milder night lows of 19 degrees.
  • Cartagena: Free from storms and heat warnings, the coastal city expects afternoon cloud intervals after 18:00, with highs reaching 35 degrees and lows of 24 degrees.
  • Noroeste: Experiencing the heaviest impacts, the area combines rainfall and storms with daytime highs of 37 degrees and overnight lows of 19 degrees.
  • Lorca: Combines active storms with daytime maximums of 37 degrees and minimums of 22 degrees.

Forecast for the Beginning of the Week

Weather conditions begin to stabilize slightly at the start of the week. Aemet forecasts lingering low-risk storm warnings restricted exclusively to the Noroeste region on Monday. Meanwhile, temperatures will remain largely unchanged across Murcia, Yecla, and Cartagena compared to the weekend. In Caravaca, maximum temperatures will drop to 36 degrees while minimums rise to 20 degrees, mirroring Lorca’s forecast of 36 degrees for the high and 23 degrees for the low.
