Speaking to reporters following Barcelona’s triangular tournament in Italy, Flick detailed the reasoning behind allowing his club captain to leave Camp Nou. According to coverage from Yahoo Sports, the German coach explained that the team’s tactical requirements differ from Araujo’s primary strengths.
“He is a very good person and an exceptional player, but our style of play is slightly different,” Flick said, as reported by Yahoo Sports. “He is a footballer with great speed and power, and he is good with the ball at his feet, too. I wanted to get him involved; I think he is eager to try new things, and I believe he has also been affected by what happened in the past.”

Araujo spent eight seasons with Barcelona, making 213 appearances and scoring 14 goals after joining the Catalan giants.
