The XXIII Festival de Cine de Comedia de Tarazona y El Moncayo Paco Martínez Soria will introduce its Official Section of Ibero-American Comedy Feature Films, according to the festival organization. Scheduled from August 15 to 22 at the Teatro Bellas Artes in Tarazona, Spain, the expanded event will feature seven films from Spain, Mexico, and Puerto Rico.
Ibero-American Expansion and Short Film Competitions
The festival continues to grow its programming by incorporating international features alongside its established short film competition. According to festival organizers, the Official Section of Short Films has selected 44 works out of 361 submissions. The lineup includes regional Aragonese productions such as En trámite by Víctor Izquierdo and Sopitas by Luis Larrodera.
The event maintains its status as a qualifying festival for the Goya Awards, a collaborator with the José María Forqué Awards, and a qualifying event for the Fugaz Awards.
Festival Honorees and Awards
According to festival announcements, four industry figures will receive recognition during the closing gala on August 22 at the Teatro Bellas Artes:
- Salva Reina: The Málaga-born actor will receive the Comedy Talent Award (Premio Talento de Comedia). Reina won the Goya Award for Best Supporting Actor for El 47. He will also perform his monologue Prohibido echarle cacahuetes al mono as part of the Off Festival.
- Toni Acosta: Receiving the Comedy Talent Award for a career spanning over two decades, Acosta has starred in television series including Con el culo al aire, Gym Tony, and 4 estrellas.
- Susana Abaitua: Recognized with the Young Talent Award (Premio Talento Joven), Abaitua arrives at Tarazona following her Goya nomination for Best Leading Actress for Un fantasma en la batalla. Her credits also include Patria and Sé quién eres.
- Mariona Terés: Set to receive the Revelation Talent Award (Premio Talento Revelación), Terés has appeared in Paquita Salas, Veneno, and Las de la última fila, and stars in her first leading role in Barrio Esperanza.
Cultural Events and Legacy
Beyond the screenings at the Teatro Bellas Artes—the event’s main venue and the site associated with the legacy of Paco Martínez Soria—the eight-day event includes short film workshops, children’s activities, filmmaker panels, and the "Un vermú con…" sessions, alongside live recordings of the Podcast de Pelocas.
