Morehouse College has opened a tenure-track faculty search for an Assistant Professor in the Cinema, Television and Emerging Media Studies Department, according to a recruitment posting released by the institution. The Division of Humanities, Social Sciences, Media & Arts is seeking a specialist in film or cinema studies with additional expertise in African cinema to join the Atlanta campus faculty.
Position Details and Academic Responsibilities
According to Morehouse College, the full-time, tenure-track faculty member will take on primary responsibility for teaching introductory core courses in film and television. The curriculum includes survey of African cinema, contemporary African Cinema, theory, alongside special topics aligned with the candidate’s areas of specialization and departmental needs. The position requires service to the department and the college, supporting the General Education curriculum and co-curricular, creative, and academic activities.
Faculty members in the department are expected to foster intellectual development and readiness for graduate school and career positions for majors and minors. Institutional policies state that applicants must pursue research and instruction that enriches the discipline, all while advancing the institution’s core purpose to nurture disciplined male leaders committed to service, focusing heavily on students’ mental and moral growth alongside a dedicated duty to instruct others in Black history and culture.
Qualifications and Application Deadlines
According to Morehouse College requirements, applicants must hold a PhD in film, cinema, cinematic arts, visual studies or any equi, with a preferred specialization in African cinema. While some teaching experience is preferred for junior candidates, senior candidates must show evidence of substantial teaching experience. The PhD must be held before or within the semester of the position’s start date.
The application deadline is set for October 1, 2026, with an employment start date of August 1, 2027. Prospective applicants must submit a cover letter, CV, and statement of teaching philosophy.
