According to an announcement by the Daejeon City government on August 11, 2026, local authorities completed joint sanitary inspections of 31 wedding buffet venues without finding any food safety violations or special concerns.
The municipal government, working alongside five district offices, conducted comprehensive operational inspections from July 27 to August 7, 2026. The inspections targeted 32 general wedding venues and 8 small-scale wedding venues, totaling 40 facilities across the region. Officials launched the sweep following public anxiety and heightened scrutiny sparked by recent unlicensed operations and subsequent closures of local wedding hall buffets.
Inspection Criteria and Venue Status
During the two-week operation, joint inspection teams evaluated multiple operational standards under the Food Sanitation Act. Inspectors verified proper food service business registrations, checked for unauthorized use of spaces outside registered boundaries, and examined the installation and maintenance of refrigeration and freezing equipment. Teams also evaluated food storage compliance and focused heavily on kitchen hygiene and ingredient management to prevent foodborne illnesses during high temperatures.
Out of the 40 targeted locations, 31 venues actively operating during the inspection window passed all checks and received suitable ratings. However, inspectors could not complete on-site evaluations at the remaining 9 venues because those facilities were either temporarily closed or had no scheduled wedding ceremonies during the inspection period.
Next Steps for Unchecked Venues
To address the remaining locations, Daejeon officials delivered on-site or phone-based hygiene training to representatives of the 9 uninspected establishments. According to the Daejeon City sports and health bureau, led by bureau chief Kim Gi-hwan, authorities will track when these businesses resume operations and conduct separate follow-up inspections.
City officials emphasized that they intend to finish checking all remaining facilities to reassure prospective brides, grooms, and guests. The municipal administration reiterated that it plans to respond swiftly and strictly to any unlicensed operations or identified food safety hazards moving forward.
