Angelique Kerber and Petra Kvitova will headline the fifth edition of the Luxembourg Ladies Tennis Masters, returning to the Coque Arena from October 13–18. Organizers confirmed the eight-woman invitational field of WTA veterans during a press conference on Monday night.
A Clash of Former Champions
Kerber returns to defend the crown she secured in 2025 after defeating Alizé Cornet. She will be joined by two-time Wimbledon winner Petra Kvitova, who makes her first appearance in the event, and former World No. 12 Tatiana Golovin, also a first-time participant.
The bracket is rounded out by a mix of returning faces and new arrivals. Former World No. 4 Dominika Cibulkova and returning players Agnieszka Radwanska, Magdalena Rybarikova, and Monica Puig are confirmed for the draw. Belgium’s Yanina Wickmayer completes the field, making her tournament debut.
The Legacy of the Coque Arena
The Masters has grown steadily since its 2022 inception, when Kim Clijsters defeated Martina Hingis in the inaugural final. The event is managed by International Women’s Tennis Promotion (IWTP), the group that oversaw the city’s WTA 250 stop for 25 years.
For some, the venue holds specific ghosts. Kvitova returns to the site where she finished as the 2016 runner-up, while Puig previously reached the final in 2017. This year, the stakes are high: the total prize purse is set at €110,000, with €50,000 reserved for the champion.
Tennis as a Platform for Maternal Health
Beyond the trophies, the 2026 edition carries a specific social mission. All eight competitors are mothers, a fact that Ann Austin, executive director of the WTA Foundation, says reflects the “strength, resilience, and determination of women at every stage of life.”
The tournament will donate to the WTA Foundation to support its partnership with the UNICEF Child Nutrition Program, an initiative aiming to provide prenatal vitamins to 6,000 women during their pregnancies.
A Festival of Veteran Competition
The event is designed as more than a standard bracket. Tournament ambassador and former World No. 5 Daniela Hantuchova described the gathering as a “weeklong festival of tennis,” noting the high level of play these athletes maintain long after retiring from the professional tour.
The competition will follow an eight-player knockout draw at the Coque Arena from October 13–18, 2026.
