A 33-year-old man was shot and killed by a juvenile in East Dallas on Sunday morning after police said he choked and punched a woman during an ongoing physical assault. The incident occurred on August 9, prompting an active investigation by local authorities.
Dallas Police Response on North Buckner Boulevard
According to the Dallas Police Department, officers responded to a call regarding a shooting at 9:11 a.m. on August 9. The emergency response brought units to the 3500 block of North Buckner Boulevard. A preliminary police investigation established that 33-year-old Adrian Ortiz began choking and punching a woman before a juvenile on the scene shot him, as reported by FOX 4 Dallas-Fort Worth.
Dallas Fire-Rescue personnel also arrived at the location to provide medical aid. First responders pronounced Ortiz dead at the scene.
Grand Jury Referral and Ongoing Investigation
Investigators determined through their preliminary findings that all parties involved in the domestic altercation were acquainted with one another, according to local police statements. Rather than filing immediate criminal charges following the shooting, law enforcement officials decided to refer the case directly to a Dallas County grand jury for review.
