Indonesia’s Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has successfully shortened the national Hajj pilgrimage queue from 49 years down to a factual average of 14 years, according to Deputy Minister of Hajj and Umrah Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak. The reduction follows a directive issued by President Prabowo Subianto to overhaul registration data and streamline the departure formula for prospective pilgrims across the country.

Data Validation Removes 400,000 Invalid Records

Speaking after a limited cabinet meeting at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Monday, Sept. 28, 2026, Dahnil explained that the dramatic reduction was achieved through an extensive data cleanup. Ministry officials validated 5.7 million existing pilgrim registration records and identified 400,000 invalid entries that bloated the queue. Removing these entries brought the actual waiting time down to 14 years, a steep drop from the previous peak of 49 years and an interim calculation of 26 years established last year. “Since the Ministry of Hajj existed, the longest queue was 49 years, and then the President ordered us to find a formula to shorten it,” Dahnil said, as reported by merdeka.com. “We cleaned and validated 5.7 million Hajj pilgrim data entries and found 400,000 invalid data points. Now, after we calculated it factually, the Hajj queue for this year has an average waiting time of only 14 years.”

Proposed 2027 Hajj Cost Structure and Geopolitical Pressures

During the same presidential meeting, Minister of Hajj and Umrah Mochammad Irfan Yusuf outlined proposed financial frameworks for the 2027 pilgrimage to protect participants from steep price hikes. President Prabowo suggested a 52-to-48 ratio between the cost of the Hajj pilgrimage (Bipih) and value benefits managed by the government, aiming to keep financial pressure off individual travelers. The government submitted a proposed total Hajj Organization Cost (BPIH) of Rp 107,340,172.02 per pilgrim following consultations with House of Representatives (DPR) Commission VIII. Minister Irfan noted that ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East continue to impact specific operational components for the upcoming season, prompting officials to adjust financial formulas so that rising international costs are not entirely borne by prospective pilgrims.
