Olivia Wilde’s Comedy-Drama Arrives on Digital Platforms

Olivia Wilde’s comedy-drama film The Invite arrives on digital streaming platforms to buy and rent. The film marks Wilde’s third feature as a director, following her 2019 directorial debut Booksmart and her 2022 psychological thriller Don’t Worry Darling.

Star-Studded Cast and High-Stakes Dinner Party Plot

The Invite features a principal cast starring Olivia Wilde as a lonely stay-at-home wife named Angela alongside Seth Rogen as her husband, Joe. The ensemble cast also features Edward Norton and Penélope Cruz as Hawk and Pína, the couple’s mysterious and sexually liberated upstairs neighbors.

The story follows Angela as she invites Hawk and Pína over for dinner in an effort to make friends, a decision that displeases Joe and places their already strained marriage on thin ice. The screenplay was co-written by Will McCormack and Rashida Jones, and is an English-language adaptation of the 2020 Spanish film The People Upstairs, directed by Cesc Gay.

Midnight Launch Across Major Digital Storefronts

Viewers can purchase or rent a digital copy of The Invite starting Tuesday, August 11, at 12 a.m. Eastern Time (9 p.m. Pacific Time on Monday, August 10) on major digital storefronts including Amazon Prime Video, Fandango at Home, and Apple TV. Pricing varies by platform, with digital pre-orders listed at $24.99 on Prime Video, while a physical DVD release date has not yet been announced.

Anticipated HBO Max Streaming Window

The film will eventually transition to a subscription streaming service under an existing agreement between A24 and Warner Bros. Discovery. Industry tracking of the studio’s typical release windows suggests The Invite could begin streaming on HBO Max around mid-November 2026, roughly three months after its digital debut, though an official streaming release date has not yet been confirmed by the studios.
