Designed to address both theft deterrence and bike recovery, the hardware mounts directly to bicycles without requiring a separate mobile application for everyday arming and disarming.
How the Quad Lock Bike Alarm Works
The device operates by detecting unwanted movement on a bicycle, which triggers an integrated 93 dBA alarm designed to draw immediate attention and deter opportunistic thieves, according to Quad Lock product specifications. Unlike traditional security accessories that rely solely on passive tracking or require a smartphone to operate, this unit integrates active audio deterrence with location technology. If a bike is successfully stolen despite the alarm, the hardware utilizes Apple’s Find My network, allowing owners to track the device through the Find My app on an iOS device similarly to an iPhone or AirPods case.
“We didn’t set out to build another AirTag holder or another alarm,” said Rob Cuzner, Senior Product Design Engineer at Quad Lock, in an official company statement. “We built something that does both, so your bike is protected before, during and after a theft attempt. The goal was to make bike security as effortless and dependable as the rest of the Quad Lock ecosystem.”
Fingerprint Authentication and Sharing
To eliminate daily operational friction, the security unit incorporates a built-in capacitive fingerprint sensor rather than relying on a smartphone app, Bluetooth connection, or manual passcode entry. A single touch of a finger arms or disarms the system instantly upon parking or returning to the bicycle.
The sensor stores up to 20 individual fingerprints. This capacity allows multiple users—such as household members, partners, or cycling groups who share a single bicycle—to operate the security system independently without needing to pass around a physical key, code, or phone.
Mounting Options and Technical Specifications
The hardware is engineered to integrate with existing Quad Lock mounting infrastructure. It installs directly onto compatible Out Front Mounts and Stem Cap Mounts. For alternative configurations, riders can attach the device using a Saddle Rail Adaptor or a Bottle Cage Adaptor, making the system compatible with commuter, road, gravel, and mountain bikes according to company details.
Power is supplied by a rechargeable battery designed to provide a minimum of six months of operational life between charges, depending on usage. The unit carries an IP66 water-resistance rating, protecting internal components against rain, dust, and mud. Apple’s Find My network integration means owners do not have to pay a monthly subscription fee or cellular service charge to track the hardware’s location.
