According to official BBC announcements made on Wednesday, August 12, the Swansea-born performer will join the ballroom competition when the show returns this September.

Melanie Walters brings decades of television, film, and stage experience to the BBC Studios Entertainment production. Viewers widely recognize Walters for her portrayal of Gwen West in the BBC comedy Gavin & Stacey, a role she originated in 2007 and reprised for the 2024 Christmas special. Her extensive television credits also include appearances in Coronation Street, Beyond Paradise, Being Human, Hollyoaks, and two series of the BBC’s Death Valley, according to BBC reports. On the big screen, her credits feature Submarine, Resistance, High Tide, and Save the Cinema.
Addressing her upcoming stint on the dance floor, Walters stated that after spending the last 15 years performing in pantomime and watching the program from dressing rooms, she is thrilled to trade her fairy wand for sequinned dance shoes. “I just hope I don’t follow Cinderella and leave one on the Ballroom stairs,” Walters said via BBC announcements. “I cannot wait to take part in this absolutely iconic show, it’s so exciting.
