Self-photo brand Photomatic, operated by Photo Create Co., Ltd. under the Kitamura Holdings Group, has announced a nationwide collaboration in Japan featuring the popular manga and anime series Bonobono. According to official company announcements, the special event kicks off on August 17, 2026, across 20 photobooth locations nationwide to mark the 40th anniversary of Bonobono’s manga serialization and the 10th anniversary of its television animation.
The collaboration introduces four distinct frame designs to Photomatic booths, including a special crossover with the knowledge entertainment group QuizKnock, centered around quiz champion Takuizawa. Mikio Igarashi’s original Bonobono manga, serialized since 1986 by Take Shobo, has surpassed 9.5 million copies in cumulative circulation, while the anime adaptation continues to air on Fuji TV, with streaming available via FOD.
Bonobono Costume Frames and Pricing
Visitors can choose from two distinct Bonobono costume frames designed to let fans pose as the curious young sea otter. According to Photomatic, users can hold up a Bonobono mouth-shaped picket in front of their face while taking pictures. Each session for the costume frames costs 900 yen, tax included, which includes two physical photo strips alongside still images and digital video data.
The nationwide rollout extends access beyond central Tokyo, appearing in 20 booths spanning regions from Hokkaido to Fukuoka. Participating venues include Photomatic Shibuya Dogenzaka, Shimokitazawa reload, Shinjuku City Office, Shinjuku Lumine Est, Forest Gate Daikanyama, Yurakucho Station, Haneda Airport Terminal 3, Tachikawa GREEN SPRINGS, Yokohama Akarenga Warehouse, Kawasaki La Cittadella, LaLaport TOKYO-BAY, Saitama Super Arena, Nagoya Sakae Chica, Umeda Tsutaya Books, Namba Walk, Abeno Harukas, Kobe Hatobacho, Dotonbori Tsutaya Ebisubashi, E・ZO FUKUOKA, and Sapporo 4PLA.
Anniversary Exhibition Visuals
In addition to the costume options, Photomatic is offering an anniversary frame utilizing the key visual from the upcoming “Bonobono Exhibition: 40 Years of History.” According to project organizers, the exhibition runs from August 27 through September 27, 2026, at the Tokyo Animation Center in DNP Plaza Shibuya. The dedicated booth frame provides exhibition visitors with a commemorative keepsake. The session fee is set at 900 yen, tax included, and delivers two prints along with digital photo and video files.
The campaign runs from August 17 through October 9, 2026. The broader anniversary celebration also features popup events and collaboration cafes across Japan, supporting fans who cannot visit the Tokyo-centric main exhibitions.
QuizKnock Crossover Frames
The lineup features a unique collaboration frame uniting Bonobono with the media brand QuizKnock. According to the announcement, the frame incorporates guest characters voiced by QuizKnock members within the Bonobono TV anime. The media brand, centered around quiz champion Takuizawa, focuses on learning sparked by entertainment and approaches its own 10th-anniversary milestone in October 2026.
The QuizKnock collaborative frame is priced at 1,000 yen, tax included, per session. Like the other tiers, it yields two physical prints plus digital image and video data. The frame highlights the cross-industry partnership as part of the brand’s ongoing entertainment projects.
Photomatic Nationwide Expansion
Founded in 2018 by photographer Seung-hyun Hong, Photomatic introduced self-studio photography concepts where subjects snap their own pictures using a remote shutter connected to professional studio lighting. The brand gained traction among Korean artists, including BTS, before entering the Japanese market in 2024 through a partnership with Kitamura Holdings Group. Beyond consumer photobooths, the company operates a corporate rental service for brand activations, retail promotions, and entertainment IP events.
