Lucasfilm and Disney have officially confirmed that The Mandalorian and Grogu will arrive on Disney+ on September 2, according to an announcement made by the companies during the kickoff of D23. The streaming release date falls approximately 100 days after the sci-fi spinoff premiered in movie theaters on May 22.
The theatrical run grossed $345 million at the global box office, according to box office reporting cited by Polygon. That total sits significantly below past cinematic entries in the franchise, such as Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, which crossed the $1 billion threshold in 2020. Critical response to the feature film ranged from middling to mostly positive.
Physical Media and Digital Release Schedule
Before arriving on Disney+, the film will be available through digital storefronts and physical media formats. According to Polygon, The Mandalorian and Grogu is currently available for purchase digitally on platforms including Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango.
A physical media release is scheduled for August 25. That rollout includes a standard 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray release, alongside a SteelBook version and a “Beskar Collector’s Edition.” Additionally, Hasbro is offering a 1:1 scale, hyper-realistic animatronic toy version of Grogu priced at $599.99 for collectors and fans.
Runtime and Streaming Window Context
According to TechRadar, the film has a runtime of two hours and 12 minutes, including the end credits sequence, making it the fourth shortest Star Wars movie to date. TechRadar also notes that the feature does not contain any mid-credits or post-credits scenes.

Disney typically schedules first-party theatrical releases for streaming approximately three months after their debut in cinemas, though underperforming titles or films still actively generating ticket sales occasionally see adjusted windows. By targeting September 2—the Wednesday preceding the United States Labor Day holiday weekend—Disney places the streaming debut at a time when millions of subscribers have extended downtime over the three-day holiday.
