The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources has scheduled public drawing dates for hunters seeking season-long waterfowl hunting blind sites across four wildlife management areas this fall, according to an announcement by the agency.
Doug Travis WMA Blind Drawing Details
According to the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources, the drawing for the Doug Travis Wildlife Management Area in Carlisle and Hickman counties is set for 10 a.m. Central Time on Saturday, Aug. 29. Registration opens at 9 a.m. at the WMA office, located one-half mile south of Berkley on KY 123.
Lake Barkley WMA Drawing Schedule
The Lake Barkley Wildlife Management Area drawing in Trigg and Lyon counties takes place at 8 a.m. Central Time on Monday, Sept. 21, as reported by state wildlife officials. Registration begins at 7 a.m. at the shelter on the east side of the Cumberland River at Lake Barkley Dam, located off U.S. 62 near Lake City. Participants must enter through the powerhouse entrance and turn right toward the drawing location.
Green River Lake WMA Location and Time
State wildlife officials announced that the Green River Lake Wildlife Management Area drawing in Taylor and Adair counties will occur at 10 a.m. Eastern Time on Saturday, Sept. 26. Registration starts at 9 a.m. at the Green River Lake U.S. Army Corps of Engineers office off KY 55, approximately 7 miles south of Campbellsville.
Barren River Lake WMA Requirements
The drawing for the Barren River Lake Wildlife Management Area in Allen and Barren counties is scheduled for 9 a.m. Central Time on Saturday, Oct. 3, according to the department. Registration opens at 7 a.m. at the Barren River Lake Corps of Engineers office, situated at the Barren River Lake dam off KY 252.
Permit and License Prerequisites for Hunters
Hunters participating in any of the four drawings must be at least 18 years old and hold a valid Kentucky hunting license, a Kentucky Migratory Bird/Waterfowl Hunting Permit, and a federal migratory bird permit, also known as a duck stamp. According to wildlife officials, participants born after 1974 must also provide proof of hunter education certification.
Additionally, hunters are required to obtain a Harvest Information Program (HIP) confirmation number prior to the drawing. To secure this number, participants must visit the Kentucky Fish and Wildlife website at fw.ky.gov, select the “My Profile” tab, and complete a brief survey regarding their migratory bird hunting activities. The resulting confirmation number must be written directly on the hunting license or waterfowl permit, or hunters may reprint their license free of charge after completing the survey so the number displays automatically.
Site Maintenance and Public Access Rules
Hunters who successfully draw a blind site on Doug Travis, Lake Barkley, Green River Lake, or Barren River Lake WMAs are responsible for locating, preparing, and maintaining the site throughout the 2026–2027 waterfowl seasons, as detailed by the department. Each drawn hunter may select one co-owner for the blind site to use the location in the primary hunter’s absence, provided the co-owner attends the drawing.
Permit holders may construct permanent blinds or utilize boats or portable blinds. Every site must be marked with a permanent identifier displaying the permit holders’ names. While selected hunters hold first rights to their assigned sites, state rules dictate that these blind locations become open to general public use if the drawn hunters or designated co-owners are not present in the blinds by 30 minutes before shooting time.
