According to The Dallas Morning News, Peterson earned Gatorade National Player of the Year, MaxPreps National Player of the Year, and AVCA first-team All-American honors as a junior.
The nation’s top-ranked setter in the Class of 2027 recorded 1,494 assists, 287 digs, 165 kills, 72 blocks, and 45 aces while losing only four sets during a 42-0 championship campaign. Peterson enters her senior season with 3,695 career assists, needing 1,222 more to break the state record of 4,916 set by Argyle’s Blair O’Brien between 2009 and 2012, as tracked by the National Federation of State High School Associations record book.
Despite graduating All-American outside hitters Kylie Kleckner and Ashlyn Seay—who combined for 1,074 kills last season—Byron Nelson returns defensive anchor Savannah Sterna. Sterna tallied a team-high 424 digs as a junior and is committed to Belmont, according to The Dallas Morning News.
Contenders Line Up Across Dallas-Fort Worth Class 6A
Allen opens the season ranked second in the Dallas area after finishing as a state semifinalist in 2024 and a regional semifinalist last year. According to The Dallas Morning News, the squad features two elite junior outside hitters in Texas A&M pledge Maya Ogbogu and Baylor pledge Olivia Kitur. Ogbogu, ranked as the nation’s top recruit in the Class of 2028, contributed 444 kills, 234 digs, and 59 blocks last season.
Flower Mound claims the third spot in the preseason rankings, led by Syracuse setter commit Hayden Curtis. Curtis collected 1,231 assists, 75 blocks, 151 digs, 123 kills, and 75 aces for a 36-9 team that reached the 6A Division II Region I final. Grand Canyon commit Aleah Edmond added 473 kills, and Colorado pledge Grace Pinegar chipped in 370 kills for the program.
Prosper Walnut Grove moves up from Class 5A to 6A in realignment while retaining elite talent around SMU-committed outside hitter Brynn Stephens. Stephens earned a spot on the U.S. under-19 national team that won the NORCECA Women’s U19 Continental Championship. Walnut Grove surrounds Stephens with three more Division I recruits: middle blockers Mackenzi Law (San Jose State) and Kyndall Smith (North Texas), alongside right-side hitter Kate Clegg (Memphis).
Mansfield and Southlake Carroll Round Out Top Contenders
Mansfield returns District 3-6A MVP Mary-Christine “MC” Crutcher, who earned AVCA third-team All-American recognition as a freshman after posting 534 kills, 318 digs, 93 aces, and 54 blocks for a 44-3 team. Mansfield returns all-district setters Emery Thomson and Saydi Walker while adding North Crowley transfer Abrielle Johnson, the reigning District 3-6A setter of the year.

Southlake Carroll enters the season with a 14-match winning streak following a 35-5 campaign that secured the program’s first state championship in Class 6A Division II. Carroll must replace graduated All-Americans Kinsley Young and Layla Austin as the squad transitions into the new competitive cycle.
