Disney’s EPCOT Germany Pavilion Undergoes Major Refurbishment and Roof Work

Walt Disney World Resort has initiated extensive exterior roof repairs at the Germany World Showcase Pavilion in EPCOT, introducing scaffolding, scrim fabric, and rolling planters to the 1982 opening-day area, according to construction filings and reports from outlets such as WDWNT and Inside the Magic. The project, which began in June and involves a third-party roofing contractor, has replaced traditional red tiles with brown protective barriers while altering guest pathways and temporarily closing select facilities.

Germany Pavilion Construction Scope and Permits

Orange County permit documents show that Walt Disney World Resort updated a Notice of Commencement for general construction at 1750 Avenue of the Stars, an EPCOT address. According to the amended paperwork, MSG Legacy, Inc.—doing business as RSS Roofing Services and Solutions Florida—is managing the project, with the legal notice extending through January 29, 2027. Maintenance teams frequently execute infrastructure replacements in batches across the World Showcase to prevent stark visual contrasts between aging and brand-new fixtures.

Impact on Guest Access and Merchandise Locations

Despite the presence of construction barriers around the Stein Haus shop facade and second-story balcony, key retail spaces remain accessible to park visitors. Das Kaufhaus stays open for guests, though entrances occasionally shift when active overhead work takes place. Shoppers can also enter Stein Haus through alternate routes via the Weinkeller doorway. Meanwhile, the Germany Pavilion’s public restrooms closed for a separate refurbishment project, requiring visitors to utilize alternative facilities elsewhere in the park.

Refurbishments and Kidcot Station Relocation

Recent operational shifts have altered guest experiences inside the village square, notably with the reopening of Der Teddybar. According to Inside the Magic, the teddy bear shop reopened on July 14 after closing briefly on July 13 for an unannounced refurbishment. Following its return, the pavilion’s Kidcot Fun Stop permanently relocated inside Der Teddybar near the cash registers. The move clears an earlier temporary setup inside Das Kaufhaus that had blocked interior doors connecting to Volkskunst Clocks and Crafts. Volkskunst remains closed to the public with a blocking table at its entryway, while the Biergarten Restaurant continues normal operations.
