Two people died in an apparent murder-suicide Wednesday night inside a gas station near Surfside Beach, according to the Horry County Coroner’s Office. Investigators confirmed that a third person sustained injuries during the incident but is expected to recover.
Incident Details at the Surfside Beach Gas Station
The shooting occurred shortly after 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the Murphy gas station located at 199 Maryport Drive, according to Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard. Authorities identified the deceased as 43-year-old Bruce Taylor of Georgetown and 46-year-old Christina Hammers, who lived at the Myrtle Beach Resort.
According to the Horry County Coroner’s Office, Taylor grabbed Hammers inside the store and shot her before walking across the establishment to take his own life. Both Taylor and Hammers were pronounced dead at the scene.
Police Investigation and Public Safety Status
The Horry County Police Department stated that a third individual was struck by gunfire during the incident and is expected to survive. Law enforcement officials confirmed there is no ongoing threat to the public following the shooting.
Responding officers initially secured the scene before notifying the department’s Criminal Investigations Division. Investigators subsequently took over the inquiry, and the Horry County Police Department continues to examine the circumstances surrounding the event.
