Huawei Mate XT 2: First Look at New Inward Tri-Fold Design

The upcoming launch expands Huawei’s history with foldable devices. According to TechRadar, the company previously produced standard book-style foldables with the Mate X and Mate X2, utilizing both inward and outward folding variations.

Design and Display Mechanics of the Mate XT

The Mate XT utilizes an inward-folding G-shaped form factor, according to Huawei Central. This design replaces older zig-zag folding formats and positions all three screen panels inward to protect them from drops and scratches. This configuration also allows part of the main display to double as an outer cover screen when the device is folded.

According to Huawei Central, the cover screen features a pill-shaped structure rather than a single punch-hole design, which indicates the inclusion of a new-generation multispectral lens and a front-facing imaging sensor. The device retains an octagonal lens bump on the central rear panel.

Color Options and Availability

Buyers can choose between a red finish with gold accents and a dark gray color option, according to TechRadar. Additionally, a dark purple color scheme has appeared on promotional displays, as reported by Huawei Central. The device has been teased on large screens in Beijing’s Wangfujing Pedestrian Street North Entrance commercial area.

Availability remains limited to China. According to TechRadar, the Mate XT will not launch outside of China due to ongoing US restrictions on Huawei devices.

The official launch event takes place on Tuesday, September 10, according to TechRadar. Proceedings begin at 2:30 pm China time, translating to 11:30 pm PT on September 9, and 2:30 am ET, 7:30 am BST, and 4:30 pm AEST on September 10.
