Barnett collapsed on the field during the first quarter of the game, according to reports. Paramedics and first responders attended to him on the field before taking him to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Barnett was a local athlete from Liberty, Missouri, who achieved a standout high school career at Liberty North Eagle. During his senior year, he helped lead his team to a state title by recording 1,450 all-purpose yards and 20 touchdowns, according to institutional records. At William Jewell College, he started five games during the previous season and led the team in rushing yards before an injury cut his season short.
