Katie Boulter Suffers Brutal 58-Minute Defeat to Karolina Muchova at US Open

British number one Katie Boulter exited the US Open in the second round following a swift 6-1, 6-0 defeat against Czech seventh seed Karolina Muchova on Wednesday. The lopsided encounter lasted just 58 minutes at the Louis Armstrong Stadium in New York, marking the worst grand slam loss of Boulter’s career.

Match Context and Weather Delays in New York

Boulter’s fixture was moved from an outer court under the protective roof of the 14,000-capacity Louis Armstrong Stadium. Despite the prestigious arena assignment, the conditions and atmosphere heavily disrupted the 30-year-old British player’s rhythm.

However, Muchova—who finished as the runner-up at Wimbledon earlier in the season—quickly seized control of the court with precise drop shots and deep groundstrokes, conceding no further games.

Statistical Breakdown of the Defeat

The British player hit eight double faults, recorded zero aces, and won just 33% of the points behind her first serve. She failed to fend off any of the seven break points she faced.

In contrast, Muchova maintained clinical efficiency by landing 14 winners while committing only nine unforced errors across the 58-minute duration.

“Ultimately, it was a bad day at the office – times two,” Boulter told BBC Sport after the match. “I struggled with the conditions. I struggled with the roof, the noise, I let things distract me. I let it get to me. I’m not usually aware of everything going on. It made me feel a little bit uncomfortable. I have to deal with it better.”

Expert Assessment and Season Context

Former world number five Daniela Hantuchova offered a blunt assessment of Boulter’s performance during a broadcast for BBC Radio 5 Live, pointing directly to technical issues on the serve.

“I would be really humbled, I would sit down with my team and say ‘OK, we need to change something big time,'” Hantuchova told BBC Radio 5 Live. “First of all, it was very obvious today that it was the serve. I feel like it needs to be cleared up because she was losing the rhythm and not using her legs. That’s the number one thing.”

The defeat compounds a difficult Grand Slam season for Boulter, who entered the tournament ranked world number 62.
