Alizée’s Ajaccio Concert Cancelled Due to Technical Incident

French pop singer Alizée was forced to cancel the opening night of her 25th-anniversary tour in Ajaccio on May 9, 2026, after a technical rehearsal mishap damaged the ceiling of the Théâtre de l’Empire. According to reporting by Paris Match, a lighting truss was raised too high during preparations, striking the ceiling and causing debris to scatter across the stage and auditorium just minutes before doors opened.

Ceiling Collapse Triggers Last-Minute Cancellation at Théâtre de l’Empire

Hometown Debut Halted Fifteen Minutes Before Showtimes

The milestone concert was set to mark the official kickoff of Alizée’s 25th-anniversary tour in her hometown of Ajaccio, where she resides and operates a dance studio with her husband, Grégoire Lyonnet. The venue and production team canceled the show fifteen minutes prior to the scheduled start time as fans gathered outside the 800-capacity theater.

"Following a technical incident during rehearsals, the conditions to welcome the public are not met," the venue director and production stated, according to Paris Match.

Structural Inspections Force September Rescheduling

Inspectors determined that structural repairs to the ceiling are mandatory before audiences can enter the building. Consequently, the production rescheduled the performance for September 20, 2026.

In an official statement cited by Paris Match, the production emphasized that public and crew safety dictated the last-minute cancellation.

"The necessary interventions will be made in the coming days to remedy this incident," the production said in the release. "The comfort and safety conditions of the public, artists, and teams remain our absolute priority, and no risk-taking is foreseeable."

Long-Awaited Homecoming Deferred After Quarter-Century

The postponed date holds deep personal significance for the artist. Organizers noted that the event represents Alizée’s first major hometown concert appearance in Ajaccio. When her breakout hit "Moi… Lolita" dominated charts a quarter-century ago, the city lacked a venue large enough to accommodate the massive public demand.

Tearful Confrontation With Crowds Outside the Venue

At 20:30 on the evening of the scheduled concert, a tearful Alizée emerged outside the venue alongside her husband to address disappointed ticket holders directly, as reported by Paris Match.

"I had more stage fright singing here than at the Olympia," Alizée told the assembled crowd. "I am really sorry. That’s how it is, that’s life."

Spectators responded with applause, and one fan shouted out, "It’s only postponed." Following the brief address, Alizée spent time posing for photographs with individual fans waiting outside the venue.
