The University of Zaragoza officially opened its academic year with 31,000 students enrolled across undergraduate, master’s, doctoral, and proprietary degree programs, according to institutional data reported by Aragón TV and the university’s official communications. Out of 6,803 incoming freshman places offered across campuses in Zaragoza, Huesca, and Teruel, more than 90% were filled by the start of classes, reflecting stable demand for the public Aragonese institution.
New Degree Offerings and Campus Expansions
The university introduced three new undergraduate programs for the term, bringing its total catalog to 74 degrees, according to statements from Miguel Ángel Barberán, vice rector for Students. In Teruel, the Obispo Polanco University Hospital began hosting the newly established Medicine degree. The program opened with 35 students enrolled out of 45 available places, as reported by Aragón TV. Meanwhile, the Huesca campus inaugurated its renovated Faculty of Medicine, allowing students to complete the full degree locally rather than transferring after the third year.
Additional curriculum additions include the International Business degree taught entirely in English at the Faculty of Economics and Business in Zaragoza, which required an admission cut-off score of 10.730 for its 75 available seats. The Zaragoza campus also launched a joint study program combining Hispanic Philology and Classical Studies, which accepted its initial cohort of five students after establishing a cut-off mark of 12.814.
Enrollment Figures and Ongoing Admissions
University rector Rosa Bolea noted that early enrollment figures showed approximately 60 more registrations compared to the same period in the previous academic year, with expectations that freshman enrollment could reach 95% following final call lists issued on September 15. Claudia Pérez Forniés, regional minister of Employment, Science and Universities, highlighted the creation of 107 new freshman slots in high-demand STEAM fields as part of regional funding support.
Direct enrollment remained open for select programs with remaining capacity, including Environmental Sciences in Huesca, Fine Arts in Teruel, and Data Engineering in Industrial Processes at La Almunia de Doña Godina. Public waiting list calls scheduled through September 15 manage remaining vacant seats in accordance with university administrative protocols.
Student Orientation and Support Services
Freshmen participated in institutional welcome sessions held between September 1 and September 3 to familiarize themselves with campus facilities, library schedules, examination regulations, and support units. These orientations introduce students to the University Guidance Program (POUZ) alongside specialized services including the Center for Modern Languages, the Psychological Cabinet, and the University Office for Attention to Diversity, ensuring structured transition support for incoming cohorts.
