Severe thunderstorms struck the Toronto area on Wednesday evening, bringing heavy rain, golf ball-sized hail, and destructive wind gusts exceeding 110 km/h, according to Environment Canada reports cited by CTV News. The extreme weather battered Rogers Stadium, causing buckling and major damage to large sections of the seating area, according to statements from Live Nation reported by Pollstar and Ultimate Classic Rock. Aerial footage showed dozens of bleachers completely mangled from top to bottom, alongside destroyed temporary tents and structures.
The Toronto Star reported that the storm’s impact extended beyond the seating bowls, scattering debris from plastic portable toilet frames across the field and toppling a portable light stand. Despite the extensive wreckage, venue officials confirmed in an email to CTV News that no employees or on-site contractors suffered injuries during the weather event. Venue representatives stated that staff are actively assessing the full extent of the damage and will release further updates as more information becomes available.
AC/DC Concert Status and Tour Timeline
The structural damage comes less than two weeks before Australian rock legends AC/DC are scheduled to perform at the venue on Wednesday, Sept. 16, as part of their Power Up tour. According to Ultimate Classic Rock, the Toronto stop is currently slated as the third-to-last show of the tour, which is scheduled to conclude on Sept. 29 in Philadelphia. Live Nation and venue organizers have not yet confirmed whether the concert will be postponed, relocated, or canceled as recovery efforts get underway.
The severe weather caused widespread disruption across the city beyond the stadium grounds. According to CTV News, the storms knocked down trees and power lines, triggered localized flooding, and left roughly 65,000 residents without electricity at the height of the storm. Emergency alerts warned residents to seek indoor shelter as major transportation arteries, including the Don Valley Parkway and the Gardiner Expressway, flooded, requiring emergency rescues for drivers trapped in submerged vehicles.
