Venice Beach to Host Attempt at World’s Largest Beach Cleanup

A coalition of nonprofit organizations plans to attempt the world’s largest beach cleanup at Venice Beach Tower 18 on September 19, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., according to reports from Time Out Worldwide. The grassroots environmental effort combines public community building with large-scale waste removal, drawing participation from multiple supporting groups including Akasha Superfoods, Deep Blue, KOOK, Love Button, Oomee, and Opolis Optics.

Event Details and Coalition Goals

Organizers designed the September 19 gathering to foster local culture while addressing coastal pollution. The campaign spent 50 days attempting to recruit Diplo through social media outreach—including public stunts and themed costumes—to amplify the community-focused initiative. The event features complimentary drinks for participating volunteers and incorporates the Love Button’s “Wear One, Share One” initiative, which encourages attendees to wear a Love Button and gift another to a community member.

“I believe what’s cool and what’s good for the planet don’t have to live in separate worlds,” said Brooke Buckman, founder and CEO of Deep Blue. “We’re not asking people to show up out of obligation, we’re giving them a reason to want to be there.”

Community Response and Digital Reach

Public interest in the Venice Beach cleanup grew rapidly following its digital launch. Within its first week online, the initiative climbed to the number one trending spot on the event platform Partiful, gathering over 1,000 RSVPs from interested residents.

“There is something incredibly powerful about thousands of people coming together to care for a place we all share,” stated Dr. Paige, operating director of Love Button Global Movement. “Through Wear One, Share One, we hope every person leaves knowing they made a meaningful difference, not only for our beach and ocean, but for one another.”
