European space logistics startup The Exploration Company has secured 450 milioni di dollari in a Series C funding round, according to an announcement made by the company.
Financing Details and Investors
The funding round was co-led by US-based Bessemer Venture Partners, European firm Atomico, and the Scaleup Europe Fund managed by EQT, a vehicle combining public and private capital targeting 5 miliardi di euro. Existing investors Balderton, Plural, Cherry, and Red River West also participated in the round. Alex Ferrara of Bessemer Venture Partners will join the company’s board of directors, according to corporate disclosures. Following this financing, The Exploration Company’s total capital raised reaches approximately 680 milioni di dollari. The transaction remains subject to standard regulatory approvals.
Contracts and Global Operations
The company reports over 2 miliardi di dollari in global contracts and commitments. These are split evenly between public programs, including agreements with the European Space Agency, and private sector clients requiring cargo logistics services for space stations, according to company statements. The firm currently employs over 550 people across locations in Munich, Bordeaux, Turin, the United States, and the United Arab Emirates. Furthermore, The Exploration Company has signed a Space Act Agreement with NASA for technical qualification, safety, and certification activities regarding future missions to the International Space Station and commercial stations.
Product Development Focus
The newly raised capital will fund two primary initiatives. The immediate priority is the development of Nyx, a reusable cargo capsule designed to deliver supplies to current and future space stations and return them to Earth, with future capabilities intended to transport human crews. The company confirmed that its first full-scale orbital demonstration will involve docking with the International Space Station followed by a return to Earth. The second initiative focuses on Storm, a high-thrust, reusable liquid oxygen and biomethane rocket engine. The company describes Storm as Europe’s first engine utilizing a full-flow staged combustion cycle. This architecture is intended to serve as the propulsion base for a future European heavy-lift reusable launch vehicle capable of placing up to 40 tons into low Earth orbit.
