Climate scientist Theodore Keeping of Imperial College notes that climate change intensifies these El Niño impacts, driving more extreme hot temperatures, heavy rainfall, and droughts than historical averages would dictate. Typhoon Dolphin and Simultaneous Tropical Cyclones
Typhoon activity this season could run 60 percent above the historical average, according to forecasters. The storm’s circulation suppressed local rainfall while pulling hot, dry air over the city, forcing outdoor workers like 67-year-old cleaner Ng Sui Ying to endure grueling conditions under the territory’s three-tier heat stress at work. Across the broader continent, the World Meteorological Organization reported that Asia’s average temperature was about 1.04°C above the 1991–2020 average, making it one of the warmest years on record and causing rapid ice loss in High-Mountain Asia alongside severe flooding in Central and West Asia.
Disaster Preparedness and Training Centers
In response to the escalating frequency of extreme weather events, communities and training facilities are adapting to better prepare citizens. Facilities such as the Lvxing Disaster Simulation Training Center in Eastern China have opened to simulate typhoon-force winds, flash flooding, and rescue scenarios.
