Universal Film and Hurwitz Concerts are launching a live-to-film concert tour featuring both Wicked and Wicked: For Good, starting in January 2027. According to a report by Deadline, the tour pairs screenings of the films on high-definition screens with a live symphony orchestra performing Stephen Schwartz’s songs and the score co-written by Schwartz and John Powell.
The concert series kicks off with a preview in San Francisco on January 16, 2027, followed by an official premiere at Radio City Music Hall in New York on January 23, 2027. Universal Film and Hurwitz Concerts previously collaborated on similar live-to-film tours for La La Land and Whiplash beginning in 2023.
Confirmed Tour Dates and Venues
According to the initial tour schedule, performances will stop in multiple North American cities through the spring and summer of 2027:
- San Francisco: January 16, 2027
- New York (Radio City Music Hall): January 23, 2027
- Chicago: January 30, 2027
- Mexico City: March 6, 2027
- Guadalajara: April 17, 2027
- Monterrey: April 24, 2027
- Toronto: May 29, 2027
- Montréal: July 17, 2027
- Vancouver: July 24, 2027
Organizers stated that additional cities and dates will be announced at a later time.
Box Office and Award Background
The concert adaptation builds on the box office success of director Jon M. Chu’s two-part film adaptation. The first film, starring Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba and Ariana Grande as Glinda, premiered in Sydney on November 3, 2024, before its wide U.S. release on November 22, 2024. It grossed 764 million dollars worldwide against a 150 million budget, making it the highest-grossing Oz film and musical adaptation to date. The film also received ten Academy Award nominations, winning for Best Costume Design and Best Production.
The sequel, Wicked: For Good, debuted in São Paulo on November 4, 2025, and opened in U.S. theaters on November 21, 2025. It grossed 540 million dollars worldwide against a 150 million budget, securing its place as the second highest-grossing Oz film behind its predecessor. The sequel earned five Golden Globe nominations and two BAFTA Award nominations.
