Chase Aeroplan Card Adds $100 Statement Credits and 15% Flight Discount

The Chase Air Canada Aeroplan Credit Card has undergone a major refresh, introducing automatic elite status and new travel perks alongside a 105% increase to its annual fee, according to reporting by The Points Guy.

The updated card, which is live for both new and existing cardmembers, now carries an annual fee of $195, up from the previous $95 charge. To offset the higher cost, Chase and Air Canada have added several new benefits, including a 15% discount on eligible flight redemptions and up to $100 in annual statement credits for Air Canada purchases.

Automatic Aeroplan 25K Status and Earning Updates

According to The Points Guy, the most significant change to the card is the addition of automatic Aeroplan 25K Status every year with no spending requirement. Under the previous version of the card, new cardmembers received status for the remainder of the calendar year and the following year, but had to spend $15,000 in a calendar year to maintain it. Air Canada notes that 25K status serves as the airline’s entry-level tier, providing day-of travel perks such as priority check-in, zone 2 priority boarding, and two complimentary checked bags on Air Canada flights.

Cardmembers can still unlock Aeroplan 35K Status by reaching $75,000 in account spend during a calendar year, while Status Qualifying Credits (SQC) remain capped at up to 25,000 SQC per calendar year.

New Statement Credits and Award Redemptions

The refreshed product introduces a structured statement credit system and booking discounts designed to provide recurring value for frequent flyers. According to product details outlined by The Points Guy, cardmembers receive up to $100 in annual statement credits for Air Canada purchases, distributed as up to two $50 credits biannually. Additionally, members receive a 15% discount when redeeming Aeroplan points for eligible Air Canada flight redemptions.

The card also adds a car rental perk, offering the fourth day free at more than 11,000 rental locations worldwide when booking a four-day reservation using Aeroplan points. The existing perk offering one extra night free when redeeming three nights with Aeroplan points in one reservation remains unchanged.

Welcome Offer and Point Valuations

New cardmembers can earn up to 115,000 bonus Aeroplan points under the updated welcome offer. The bonus is structured in two tiers: 75,000 bonus points after spending $4,000 on purchases within the first three months of account opening, followed by an additional 40,000 bonus points after spending $20,000 on purchases within the first 12 months. Based on valuations from The Points Guy, Aeroplan points hold an estimated value of 1.5 cents apiece, putting the total potential value of the welcome offer at $1,725.
