The feature-length project examines the tech executive’s influence, his shift to MAGA supporter, controversies surrounding Tesla’s self-driving technology, and his business ventures including an Occupy Mars mission.

According to Variety, the documentary includes interviews with figures such as Musk’s first wife, Justine Musk, his father, Errol Musk, Tesla co-founder Martin Eberhard, LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman, and artificial intelligence researcher Geoffrey Hinton. The film also features Ashley St. Clair, the mother of Musk’s thirteenth child, who appeared alongside Gibney at the festival’s press conference.
Elon Musk Criticizes the Project as a Hit Piece
Elon Musk responded to the premiere on X by dismissing the project as a boring hit piece, according to Variety. Musk wrote in a post that “dogshit is worth more respect” than the Oscar-winning documentarian and claimed that Gibney assembled a list of contributors with pre-existing grievances. It remains unclear whether Musk has watched the completed four-hour film.
Musk denied the allegation in a reply to TMZ coverage, stating that St. Clair was never offered an NDA and asserting that she has a history of making false claims.
Production Background and Artificial Intelligence Integration
Director Alex Gibney stated at the Venice press conference that he initially approached Musk for an interview, but the request was declined, according to Variety. Gibney noted that the production expanded as Musk became wrapped in the career of Donald Trump and the United States.
To incorporate statements from Musk himself, Gibney’s production team developed an artificial intelligence avatar that delivers remarks originally spoken by the billionaire throughout the film, as reported by Variety. Bleecker Street has scheduled the theatrical release of “Musk” in the United States for October 16.
