Snapchat Launches New ‘Plans’ Feature for In-App Event Planning

Snap Inc. has rolled out a new event-planning feature called Snapchat Plans, allowing users to coordinate gatherings, send invitations, and track RSVPs directly inside the messaging app, according to an official company announcement released on Thursday.

Capitalizing on In-App Coordination Habits

The feature addresses a behavioral trend documented by Snap: approximately one-third of young users in the United States currently organize real-world meetups through group chats and direct messages. Snapchat Plans aims to formalize that coordination without requiring users to switch to external calendar or invitation platforms.

Building and Distributing Custom Event Invites

When building a plan through the app, hosts can add a title, select a specific date and time, invite up to 200 friends, and customize the event using dynamic Bitmoji-based cover art, according to Snap’s official blog post.

Invitations are delivered straight into the 1:1 chat thread between the host and each invited friend. Recipients can respond directly within the chat using three status options: “Going,” “Maybe,” or “Decline.”

Centralizing Schedules Across User Profiles

A new “My Plans” section on individual user profiles aggregates current, upcoming, and past events in a single view. Additionally, a “Our Plans” section within Friendship Profiles highlights shared events between specific users.

Real-Time Roster Tracking and Automated Alerts

Hosts retain control over their events after creation, with the ability to review attending guest lists, add more participants, and update event details as plans shift.

Invited guests can view the full attendee roster at any time, update their RSVP status retroactively, and receive automated reminders one hour before the scheduled start time, according to the company’s platform documentation.
