The Brazilian Federal Police have identified Flávio Bolsonaro, a senator representing the right-wing Liberal Party (PL), as a direct point of contact for Vorcaro regarding the film’s funding. Investigators are currently tracing the origin and destination of the funds used for the project.
Flávio Bolsonaro has denied any wrongdoing, maintaining that the production relied entirely on private financing. Meanwhile, federal authorities are probing Vorcaro and his associates over broader allegations of multi-billion-dollar financial crimes, with the STF describing the wider financial scheme as one of the largest fraud cases in Brazilian history.
Supreme Court Clash Over Investigation Details
The release of the investigative files has triggered an open power struggle within Brazil’s highest court. Justice Mendonça disclosed police findings detailing contacts between Vorcaro and fellow STF Justice Alexandre de Moraes. While the Prosecutor General’s Office deemed the disclosure of those specific contacts inadmissible, Justice Moraes subsequently requested a separate investigation into Mendonça.
The court scheduled an extraordinary plenary session for September 15 to decide whether prosecutors can utilize the police report concerning Moraes and Vorcaro, and whether to proceed with an investigation into Mendonça.
