Role Responsibilities and Critical Infrastructure Maintenance
According to Equinix operational guidelines, Critical Facilities Engineers perform preventive and corrective maintenance on core electrical and mechanical infrastructure. Operations teams manage systems including uninterruptible power supply (UPS) units, backup diesel generators, switchgear, high-efficiency chillers, computer room air handler (CRAH) and computer room air conditioner (CRAC) units, along with life-safety and Building Monitoring Systems (BMS).
Engineers execute routine site inspections, respond to alarms, and resolve equipment failures in a continuous 24/7 operational environment. Duties also include developing and following maintenance documentation, Method of Procedure (MOP) scripts, and permits while coordinating third-party vendor activities to maintain facility compliance and safety standards.
