Offline Precision Agriculture Technology

Agricultural operations in rural regions frequently suffer from poor cellular coverage and a lack of internet access. To bypass this limitation, VAF Electrónica designed its hardware to record data directly onboard the tractor or implement, utilizing a USB drive for manual data extraction, as explained by company president Valentín Noto. Once transferred to a web platform, the system generates a cartographic representation of the field divided into grid squares.

This localized data capture logs specific agronomic metrics across every centimeter of a field. Users can click on any sector within the digital map to review historical operating parameters, which include:

  • Calibration records for dosing motors
  • Automated fault and alarm logs issued during fieldwork

From Cab Monitors to Audit Maps

Traditional electronic monitors inside tractor cabins primarily alert operators to immediate mechanical failures or sensor disruptions as they occur across the rows. VAF Electrónica expands on this functionality by turning real-time monitoring into long-term operational management, according to Noto. The resulting interface functions as a comprehensive audit map, allowing producers and agronomists to evaluate the precision of completed seeding and fertilization tasks at the end of a workday.

The hardware setup integrates monitors inside the tractor cabin linked to a GPS antenna, while sensors and physical actuators—such as hydraulic motors, pistons, and turbines—are mounted directly onto the planting implements. At present, the system concentrates specifically on planting and fertilizer application rather than harvest or chemical spraying workflows.

Business Growth and Market Pricing

VAF Electrónica began operations five years ago with financial backing from non-reimbursable grants provided by the Argentine Ministry of Industry, allowing the founders to build their initial working prototypes. Three years ago, the enterprise partnered with Grupo GR, a conglomerate comprising agricultural machinery manufacturers, seed producers, and agronomists, which acquired a 50 percent stake in the firm and provides field-testing environments for new hardware.
