Built by the World of Warcraft Classic team following the conclusion of the Season of Discovery, the project centers on a reimagined Azeroth with a frozen level cap of 60, brand-new zones, and unreleased storylines that diverge from traditional expansions.

Launch Timeline and Chronology

According to announcements at BlizzCon 2026, World of Warcraft: Forever is scheduled to launch on November 4, 2026. Players can access the upcoming beta test starting on Thursday, September 17, 2026.

The development team designed the project as a permanent home alongside modern and Classic versions of the game, targeting a debut set chronologically after the events of Warcraft III Reforged: Forsaken Kingdom and prior to the Molten Core raid.

Factions, Races, and Customization

The expansion also opens up previously unavailable character combinations, including Forsaken Paladins and Dwarf Shamans.

Dungeons, Quests, and Zones

The game world features over 1,000 new quests, nine new dungeons, and two max-level raids available at launch, according to official convention disclosures. Players can explore expanded terrain across existing zones alongside fresh areas such as the lush Riverlands and Mount Hyjal, which still display remnants of the battle against Archimonde.

Unlike modern expansions, the level cap remains strictly frozen at 60 to ensure hard-earned gear, leveled characters, and established professions retain their long-term value across future patches.

Design Philosophy and Engine Upgrades

The development team explicitly rejected flying mounts, level scaling, and artificial difficulty inflation, prioritizing social dynamics and open-world community bonds.

Visually, the engine integrates modern lighting improvements, global illumination, volumetric fog, god rays, dynamic water reflections, and terrain shadows that shift across Blackrock Mountain.
