The landslide struck at approximately 18:15 WIB after heavy rain lashed the region, according to reports received by the BNPB. Acting Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information, and Communication Centre Berton SP Panjaitan stated on Monday, September 14, 2026, that preliminary data confirmed one death and 13 injuries among local residents.

The disaster impacted seven villages spread across four districts: Kebayakan, Lut Tawar, Celala, and Silih Nara. In addition to the casualties, structural damage was reported across the affected zone. The BNPB noted that two houses suffered heavy damage while two others sustained moderate damage.

Emergency Response and Road Clearance Operations

Debris from the landslide blocked several road sections, disrupting public access and community activities. According to the BNPB, the Central Aceh Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) coordinated with relevant local parties to conduct site assessments and emergency handling.

The BPBD deployed two units of heavy equipment—specifically one wheel loader and one excavator—to clear the earth and rock blocking the roads. Debris clearing operations continued into Monday, September 14, 2026, to restore road access and support normal community routines.

Safety Warnings and Regional Vigilance

Following the disaster, the BNPB urged residents living in Central Aceh and surrounding areas to remain vigilant against the potential for follow-up landslides. Berton emphasized that heightened caution is especially necessary during periods of high-intensity or prolonged rainfall.

Authorities advised citizens residing near slopes and cliffs to increase their watchfulness and move immediately to safer locations if they observe any early signs of ground movement. The BNPB and local disaster management teams continue to monitor conditions across the affected areas.
