The 4th Shimizu Takehori Cup Japan-Mongolia International Friendship Judo Tournament brought approximately 400 athletes together at the Bayangol District sports facility in Ulaanbaatar, according to the Embassy of Japan in Mongolia. Held on September 11, the annual competition featured intense matches and cross-cultural athletic exchange between Mongolian competitors and visiting delegations.
International Participation and Delegations
Eight students from Japan, representing Kumamoto Chuo High School and Oki Gakuen, traveled to Mongolia to compete alongside local judokas, as reported by the Embassy of Japan in Mongolia. The tournament serves as a platform for young international prospects to test their skills under competitive tournament conditions.
According to the Embassy of Japan in Mongolia, the opening ceremony featured remarks from Councilor Kondo, who addressed the assembled competitors prior to the start of the tournament schedule.
Development of Bilateral Judo Relations
The tournament is named in honor of Takehori Shimizu and has grown into a regular fixture for sporting cooperation between Japan and Mongolia.
Competitors across various weight classes took part in the one-day event, showcasing technical throws and ground grappling before local spectators and tournament officials at the Bayangol venue.
