Icheon City Wins 4 Titles and Secures 14th Consecutive Jokgu Victory at Gyeonggi Sports Festival

Icheon City Sweeps Four Disciplines at Gyeonggi Festival

The three-day competition, which ran from September 11 to September 13, brought together approximately 21,600 participants from 31 cities and counties across Gyeonggi Province to compete across 29 sports categories, according to event organizers. The Icheon City athletic delegation dispatched 868 athletes across 27 events to the county-wide tournament.

According to the official results released by the city, Icheon secured overall championship titles in four separate disciplines: jokgu, baseball, taekwondo, and gateball. In addition to the four titles, the city’s gymnastics team finished as overall runners-up, while the tennis and badminton squads each claimed third-place overall finishes.

Jokgu Team Extends Historic Winning Streak to Fourteen Years

Among the standout performances was the Icheon jokgu squad, which secured its 14th tournament victory in the sport, according to official delegation records.

This distinction is awarded annually to the city or county within the division that records the highest number of first-place finishes across individual sport categories.

Looking Ahead to Future Provincial Competitions

Following the conclusion of the event on September 13, representatives from both the city administration and the Icheon City Sports Council gathered to celebrate the delegation’s performance, as reported by the municipal government.

An Icheon City official stated that the administration extends its gratitude to the athletes and sports council staff for their dedication and hard work during the Gapyeong tournament, and emphasized that the city remains fully committed to ensuring the successful execution of the upcoming Gyeonggi Provincial Multi-Sports Games scheduled for 2028 and 2029.
