The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets have officially dropped Notre Dame from their plans for the 2027 college football season. The removal stems directly from the Atlantic Coast Conference expanding its football schedule to a nine-game conference slate for the 2027 season.
ACC 9-Game Slate Forces Notre Dame Removal
The shift to a full nine-game conference schedule forced Atlantic Coast Conference programs to reshuffle long-planned non-conference matchups. For Georgia Tech, the added league game meant the Fighting Irish fell off the calendar entirely for 2027. The teams had previously scheduled a meeting, but that trip is no longer happening. Future games between the two programs remain on the books for 2029 in an away game, 2032 away, and 2036 at home.
Georgia Tech 2027 Home and Away Opponents
Under the newly released 2027 ACC rotation, Georgia Tech will host four conference games at Bobby Dodd Stadium at Hyundai Field: California, Pittsburgh, Virginia, and Virginia Tech. The Yellow Jackets’ original 2027 plans included games against North Carolina and Syracuse, but those opponents were replaced on the updated slate by Pittsburgh and Virginia Tech.
The road schedule features five conference games away from Atlanta. Georgia Tech will travel to Boston College, Florida State, Miami, SMU, and Wake Forest. The Boston College game effectively replaces the lost Notre Dame fixture on the calendar, noting a road trip instead of South Bend.
Non-Conference Matchups and Rigorous Travel
Even without Notre Dame, Georgia Tech maintains a challenging non-conference lineup for 2027. The Yellow Jackets will host in-state rival Georgia on November 27, 2027, alongside an FCS matchup against Hampton with a date to be determined. Out-of-conference play also features a marquee road trip to Knoxville to face Tennessee, completing a home-and-home series that began this season in Atlanta.
The 2027 schedule leans heavily on long-distance travel, including flights to California and Texas to face conference opponents. Combined with the expanded ACC slate, the 2027 campaign shapes up as one of the program’s more rigorous schedules in recent years.
