Modernizing the Flat Roof Aesthetic
VELUX has launched its new Standard glass rooflight designed specifically for flat roof projects, introducing a modern glass-to-edge aesthetic that replaces traditional plastic domes, according to Irish building magazine.
The newly introduced product line forms part of a broader rollout by the manufacturer. According to VELUX Ireland, the company’s new generation of glass rooflights provides up to 52 percent more daylight than previous models due to a slim frame and invisible sash design. The company states that the units can deliver up to three times more daylight than standard façade windows of the same physical dimensions.
Engineering Natural Light and Efficiency
According to VELUX product specifications, the Standard glass rooflight features a framed glass-top exterior designed to offer a clean alternative to conventional plastic domes. The maximum available size for this specific model reaches 200 by 100 centimeters to maximize natural light penetration in residential spaces.
The unit relies on a three-layer glazing construction to maintain energy efficiency. VELUX notes that homeowners can pair the rooflights with accessory heat-protection or blackout blinds to regulate indoor temperatures, with manufacturer data indicating that such combinations can reduce interior room temperatures by nearly 5 degrees Celsius.
Operational Variants and Smart Automation
Flat roof installations using the new range are available in three operational variants: fixed, electric, and solar-powered base units, according to company documentation. Users can integrate these rooflights with VELUX Active with NETATMO automation controls, which utilize indoor climate sensors to manage ventilation and indoor air quality.
Specialized Safety and Access Solutions
For installations requiring specialized safety or operational features, VELUX also offers curved and flat glass rooflight alternatives equipped with double or triple glazing, smoke ventilation capabilities, roof exit access, and burglar-resistant construction.
