Indonesia’s Korlantas Polri has launched the digital Vehicle Number Certificate, known as STNK Digital, allowing motorists to access vehicle registration documents directly through the Digital Korlantas mobile application. National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo introduced the digital document to mark the 71st Bhayangkara Traffic Day anniversary in 2026.
The rollout forms part of an ongoing digital transformation effort by the Traffic Corps to provide practical, reliable, and accessible services to vehicle owners. According to Korlantas Polri, the digital format serves as an official complement to physical vehicle documents, giving drivers proof of legal vehicle operation straight from their mobile devices.
Accessing Digital Vehicle Registration Certificates Through the Digital Korlantas App
Motorists can set up and view their vehicle registration documents by downloading the Digital Korlantas application. Users must input their license plate number alongside the final five digits of the vehicle’s frame number to complete the registration process.
System requirements mandate that the National Identity Number (NIK) registered inside the application must exactly match the NIK recorded on the official vehicle registration. If the numbers do not match, the system halts the setup process. Data entered into the application links directly with and undergoes validation against the central Korlantas Polri motor vehicle database.
Dynamic QR Codes and Anti-Piracy Protection
During roadside stops, law enforcement officers verify vehicle credentials by scanning a dynamic QR code generated within the app, which is digitally certified by Korlantas Polri. This mechanism allows police to authenticate vehicle legitimacy immediately.
To prevent forgery and unauthorized distribution, the application incorporates built-in security features that block users from recording video or taking screenshots of the document page. These safeguards aim to speed up verification while cracking down on counterfeit vehicle paperwork.
Comparing Digital STNK and Digital SIM Standards
The introduction of the digital STNK follows the implementation of the Digital SIM (Driver’s License) system by Korlantas Polri. Both digital credentials aim to reduce the reliance on physical cards during routine police inspections.
Korlantas Polri emphasizes that official digital credentials accessed through authorized government apps differ from informal methods, such as storing a photograph of a physical card in a phone gallery, which remains invalid during traffic stops.
