Coretura has chosen the Alloy Kore software platform as the foundational layer for high-performance computing systems in its upcoming commercial-vehicle architecture. Announced on Sept. 22, the partnership marks the first design win for Alloy Kore, a pre-integrated software foundation jointly developed by Vector and QNX. Coretura itself is the software-defined vehicle platform company established by Daimler Truck and Volvo Group.

Pre-Validated Middleware and Real-Time Architecture

Alloy Kore combines QNX’s safety-certified real-time operating system with automotive system services and Vector’s software integration technology. Under the agreement, Coretura will utilize the Vector Distribution of Alloy Kore. This implementation supplies the venture with pre-validated middleware, communication capabilities, and integration tools tailored for high-performance computing environments.

“We are building one foundation the industry can rely on, so our customers can concentrate their engineering on the applications that bring value to theirs,” said Johan Lundén, CEO of Coretura.

By utilizing a standardized, open software layer, commercial vehicle manufacturers can decouple software development cycles from hardware updates. This architecture supports centralized high-performance computing and enables over-the-air digital updates across vehicle fleets.

BlackBerry Secures Royalty Backlog

According to a Sept. 22 filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Coretura design win adds more than $100 million to QNX’s royalty backlog. BlackBerry described this contract as the largest design win in the history of QNX.

BlackBerry defines its royalty backlog as estimated future revenue generated from variable royalties based on projected vehicle production volumes and royalty rates. The company notes that this backlog projection may not equal actual future revenue depending on market adoption and production timelines.

Joint Venture Roadmap Targets End-of-Decade Deployment

Coretura officially commenced operations in June 2025 with approximately 50 employees, following initial planning announcements by Daimler Truck and Volvo Group in 2024. The joint venture was created to establish an open software baseline that extends beyond its founding companies, allowing other commercial vehicle manufacturers and suppliers to utilize the architecture.

The venture targets the deployment of its first commercial vehicle products by the end of the decade. While the companies have not yet disclosed specific truck models, manufacturing partners, or precise production schedules, leadership indicates that the platform’s modular design is intended to reduce integration overhead and streamline safety certification efforts across multiple automotive programs.
