Meta has unveiled its new generation of wearable technology, headlined by the Meta VR Glasses, featuring a modular two-part design that drops the weight of the headset to roughly 100 grams.
Splitting the Hardware to Slash Facial Load
Built with a magnesium frame and connected via an optical cable to a pocket-sized 300-gram module holding the processor, battery, and storage, the new hardware undercuts the weight of standard all-in-one headsets while introducing a 5K micro-OLED display system.
The Meta VR Glasses separate display optics from computing hardware to reduce facial load. The optics rely on micro-OLED panels delivering a 5K Infinite Display resolution with a pixel density of 37 pixels per degree of field of view, according to company specifications.
Power, Processing, and Passthrough
The external module houses the Qualcomm Snapdragon Reality Elite processor alongside the battery and storage.
Meta reports the setup delivers up to three hours of continuous high-resolution media playback on a single charge, supported by 45-watt fast charging.
The device features open sides and front-facing cameras, allowing users to maintain visibility of their physical surroundings while operating in virtual environments—a departure from fully enclosed alternatives like the HTC Vive Focus Vision.
Spatial Audio and Multi-Monitor Workspaces
For media consumption, the headset includes built-in speakers featuring spatial Dolby Atmos and support for Dolby Vision, alongside an IMAX Enhanced certification for film viewing.
Users can operate the system using a combination of eye tracking, hand gestures, and the built-in Muse voice assistant, or pair controllers such as the Touch Plus and Bluetooth gamepads for Xbox Cloud Gaming.
The software platform provides access to Quest-compatible applications, with more than 75 gesture-controlled games slated for the device at launch. In addition to gaming and media streaming, the system supports wireless or USB-C connectivity to Mac and Windows computers, projecting virtual multi-monitor desktop environments that can double as touch interfaces.
Communication features include Hologram Calling, a function designed to generate a photorealistic rendering of the user during video calls, capturing gestures and facial expressions in real time.
Targeting a Mid-Tier Price Point
Meta plans to release the VR Glasses in the spring of 2027 with a base price of 1,299 USD, translating to approximately 34 tisíc to 40 tisíc CZK depending on regional taxes and market entry.
The pricing positions the headset above competitors such as the HTC Vive Focus Vision, while remaining well below higher-end spatial computing devices like the Apple Vision Pro.
Camera-Free Ray-Ban Audio Eyewear
Alongside the modular headset, Meta introduced the Ray-Ban Meta Audio, a dedicated audio-only eyewear model built without cameras.
Weighing 43 grams, the audio glasses offer up to 12 hours of battery life on a single charge, extending to 48 hours with the included charging case.
Set for release on October 13 in Clubmaster and Burbank styles across 23 frame and lens combinations, the audio-focused variant is priced at approximately 9 tisíc CZK with tax.
