The United Kingdom has become the first international partner whose defense companies will gain access to Avengers Labs, Ukraine’s AI-training platform for unmanned systems. Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense confirmed the agreement on September 25, sealing a formal pact alongside a joint declaration of intent signed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham.
London Secures First International Access to Ukraine’s AI Defense Hub
The Secure Perimeter and the RAID Selection Process
Up to 12 British defense companies will earn a spot in the program via a competitive selection process managed by the UK Ministry of Defence’s Rapid AI Delivery Task Force, better known as RAID. Participating firms operate inside a strict technical perimeter that completely bars them from downloading the underlying dataset.
Instead, engineers test and refine their proprietary AI models natively within the secure environment. The inaugural competition zeroes in on a singular, urgent tactical problem: building AI models that empower unmanned systems to function seamlessly despite degraded communications or unavailable satellite navigation. Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense reports that companies will be chosen within a few weeks, with data exploitation kicking off immediately following the completion of export control procedures.
Five Million Battlefield Frames Fueling the Platform
At the core of Avengers Labs sits an annotated dataset containing more than 5 million battlefield frames. The vast majority of this intelligence flows directly from uncrewed aerial systems operating inside Ukraine’s DELTA combat management system. To safeguard personnel currently on active duty, all incoming data is rigorously anonymized and delayed.
Scale defines the repository. The archive catalogs over 6 million object detections captured across both daylight and thermal sensors. Tracked targets span the full spectrum of modern warfare: enemy tanks, artillery, air defense systems, infantry, reconnaissance uncrewed aerial vehicles, and Shahed-type drones. More than 30 Ukrainian defense companies already rely on Avengers Labs to train their own systems, yielding three products that are already actively deployed on the battlefield.
Targeting Autonomous Drone Swarms
Priority development under the new partnership focuses squarely on AI models capable of directing swarms of unmanned systems. The objective is clear: enable drones to cooperate autonomously, pinpoint enemy targets, and execute high-precision strikes.
Pairing Combat Experience with British Tech
UK Defence Secretary Wes Streeting emphasized that world-first access to genuine battlefield data gives British firms a vital edge to advance defense innovation, secure the home front, and back Ukraine simultaneously. AI Minister Kanishka Narayan echoed that perspective, noting that the collaboration merges Ukraine’s hard-won combat experience with British artificial intelligence prowess to push operational technology to the front lines at an accelerated pace.
