Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan sharply criticized international bodies and the conduct of occupying states during a speech in Istanbul, arguing that the global governance system has failed on legitimacy, representation, and fairness. Speaking at the closing ceremony of the 21st MÜSİAD EXPO and the 29th International Business Forum, Erdoğan focused his remarks on international justice regarding military actions and the rapid rise of artificial intelligence.
Erdoğan Lashes Out at Global Bodies in Istanbul
He directed intense criticism at states he characterized as operating with an occupying, supremacist mindset. According to the Anadolu Agency, the Turkish president stated that these powers view themselves as a chosen and superior people devoid of mercy, conscience, morality, and principles.
The Demand for Courtrooms Over UN Podiums
“What they do, we will not back down,” Erdoğan said, as reported by Anadolu Agency.
He specifically addressed individuals targeted by international arrest warrants, asserting that their proper venue is a courtroom rather than the podium of the United Nations.
“The place of the war criminals, for whom the International Criminal Court has issued an arrest warrant, is not the tribune of the United Nations, but the courtrooms where they will account for the murders they committed and the blood spilled,” Erdoğan declared during the Istanbul event.
Managing the AI Revolution and Production Models
Shifting focus to technological evolution, Erdoğan noted that human history reaches critical thresholds where subsequent eras diverge fundamentally from the past. He identified the recent, rapid transformation driven by artificial intelligence as one of these defining shifts.
Erdoğan outlined how AI models and robotic technologies increasingly influence both daily life and professional sectors. He stated that AI advantages are visible across healthcare, education, information technology, transportation, agriculture, and economics, directly reshaping production and consumption models as real-world entrepreneurs and industrialists adopt these tools.
Warnings on the Human Factor in Technology
However, the Turkish leader issued a warning regarding the development trajectory of these technologies. He emphasized that failing to prioritize the human factor during AI development risks producing outcomes entirely contrary to intended benefits.
Geopolitical Instability and Structural Failures
Connecting technological disruption with geopolitical instability, Erdoğan described a global system facing deep structural failures.
“We are going through days when the global system has reached a dead end both in terms of legitimacy, representation, and justice,” Erdoğan said, pointing to the intense cluster of regional crises surrounding Turkey’s geographic center.
